WHAT IS THE CAPITOL HILL CLASSIC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT?
CHC is a qualifier-style event for 550+ teams that want to be part of a big, qualifier-like event with great competition. CHC does not award “bids” to winners of divisions for qualification into other events. However, CHC results do assist a team in building up their competition profile for entry consideration into other national events.
WHO CAN PLAY IN CAPITOL HILL CLASSIC?
Any team that wants to participate and is registered with its appropriate USAV Member Organization.
WHICH UNIVERSITIES WILL ATTEND CAPITOL HILL CLASSIC?
While attendence may vary some from year to year, colleges are fairly consistent about which tournaments they attend each year. To see a list of colleges that attended in 2011, click here.

ADMISSION FOR PLAYERS AND COACHES:
Players and coaches are not charged admission and will have a special entrance at each of the halls.
Players and coaches will need to show their wristband (which will be given to teams at check in) to enter the hall.
TICKETS:
Individual or group ticket sales are available for Weekend Passes only ($20) the night before play begins, Friday, February 17th. Come to the Walter E Washington Convention Center and look for the ticketing booths in the main lobby off of 14th Street.
You can purchase tickets for individuals or large groups - send one person to pick up the tickets for everyone on your team! You may have to do a little planning with other people from your club, but it will be worth it. Pre-ordering group tickets is not required, just show up and we will help you.
Ticket booths will open at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 17th and remain open until 8:00 pm. Group tickets can also be purchased once the event begins by going to the designated ticket booth in the lobby from 7:00am to 7:00 pm.
PARKING INFORMATION:
Please check the Washington Convention Center information page for parking details.
NO COOLERS ALLOWED:
NO COOLERS of any kind, of any size, or for any reason are permitted in the Washington Convention Center. Coolers left inside the building will be removed to the outside of the building. Coolers left outside the building are the sole responsibility of the owner, but may be confiscated if security deems them a hazard. Neither Capitol Hill Classic, Metro American VBC or the facility will assume any responsibility for coolers or providing a place for them.
NO LARGE BAGS, BALLOONS, CHAIRS OR OUTSIDE FOOD ALLOWED:
No outside food can be brought into the Convention Center building, not even into the lobby. This is a Convention Center rule that we must enforce as a condition of our contract; it is not our rule. We understand people don't like this, and neither do we. But we are bound by the terms of the contract and cannot negotiate this away. We apologize for any inconvenience it causes.
In this post-9/11 world, major facilities reserve the right to restrict any items being brought into the building that they consider to be a problem; this includes personal seating and other large containers. We do provide seating for spectators at each court.
Teams will be penalized if supporters hassle the security staff about these rules. Please abide by the rules and let the tournament be enjoyable for everyone.
ATHLETIC TRAINERS :
We have athletic trainers on duty during the hours the tournament operates. They are located near the Tournament Desk. There is a small charge for providing athletic tape but no charge for taping if you provide your own tape.
PLAY TIMES:
Competition begins at 9 am on Saturday, February 18th, 2012.
The event runs in waves. The morning wave begins at 9 am; the afternoon wave begins at 3:30 pm. We will post exact starting times for age groups later. All teams should be prepared to play at 9 am on Day 1.
Final matches on most courts are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Monday, February 20th. BE AWARE, however, that many courts run late on the 3rd Day.
Playing times for 2nd and 3rd days will depend on how the team finishes the day before. DO NOT assume you play in the same wave on the second day as you did on first.
PRACTICE TIMES:
Teams may use one court for one hour on Friday, February 17th, between 6 pm and 8 pm, provided we are finished setting up all the courts. Teams MUST check in prior to using a court for practice. Court use is first come first served basis on unused courts. We reserved the right to deny practice time if circumstances dictate. All players and spectators must leave the halls by 8:00 pm.
COACHES' MEETING:
There is no Coaches' meeting prior to the start of the tournament.
All tournament updates will be officially posted at check-in and at the Tournament Desk in the CCC.
Coaches are SOLELY responsible for knowing of any changes posted. Official postings rule if there is a discrepancy between them and any other printed or published material (including what any staff member may tell you).
EXHIBITORS:
A variety of vendors and sponsors will have booths at CHC. Hours of operation are, generally, from 8 am to 6 pm each day of the tournament. We will publish a list of exhibitors at a later time.
