Dear Capitol Hill Classic volleyball community,
Over the past several months, we have been working hard to find the best path that will allow us to have another fun-filled weekend of great volleyball competition in a safe, secure environment in Washington, DC. Players, coaches, and families are all gearing up for the 2021 version of the Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic.
At this time, the city of Washington, DC is in Phase Two of reopening, thereby limiting gatherings to no more than 50 people in a designated space. As well, 39 states are currently listed as high risk which requires a 14-day self-quarantine upon arrival in the District. Under these restrictions, we could only provide limited opportunities for the athletes and teams who desire to participate in our special annual event in the District.
We have searched far and wide for a way to provide Capitol Hill Classic teams an opportunity to play at a different venue. Most important to us is the ability to provide players and their families a healthy experience, while meeting state and local guidelines for all attendees. The global pandemic has disrupted training and competition routines of athletes for months, but our hope is to provide an opportunity for athletes to once again connect with their teammates while competing on the court.
We are thankful that the city of Atlanta, and specifically the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), has space available to host us for the 2021 Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic in Georgia.
The GWCC is a state-of-the-art complex located in the heart of the city of Atlanta. Easily accessible from Hartsfield Airport, and with an abundance of fantastic hotel accommodations, the GWCC provides greater square footage than most venues, and has hosted many other large volleyball events over the past 30 years. The leadership of the city and community have successfully balanced their reopening plan in a progressive manner; therefore we have secured the extended weekend of February 26-28 th, 2021 in hopes you will be able and interested in joining us for the 2021 Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic: Atlanta Edition!
In 2022, we have every intention of returning to our nation’s capital to compete in the beautiful Walter E. Washington Convention Center, but until then we would love for you to join us in Atlanta. We appreciate your consideration and we look forward to the monumental Capitol Hill Classic down south!
